Exclamation Mustang confirmed to replace Falcon -2018 Supercars

http://performancedrive.com.au/ford-...s-series-0421/

Looks like Ford will keep the V8 rumble while the others switch to drones V6's. Shame to see the old bird go, though.

Sounds like the sport is returning to its routes a little. With some variety in engine technologies and body styles. Far more interesting than making everything the same.

Bodes well for DJR/Penske, with Penske Group owning a Ford Dealership in Arizona plus their vast network of connections Stateside.

That article's heading is a bit misleading....all we know at the moment is that PRA's Falcons will be replaced with Mustangs. We haven't had confirmation as to what is happening at DJR/TP and they, conceivably, could still run Falcons in the series next year. And will all 4 Falcons at PRA be changed over to Mustangs or will they keep one or two Falcons going?

The Falcon may not be dead yet!

Its just a body shell though isn't it? they could just as easily put a Mondeo one on just like the Volvos & Nissans. but at least the Mustang actually comes with a V8.

I guess the bodies are a bit better than the NASCAR ones that have stickers for headlights

What are Holden doing? will they be going with the Opel bodies?

The confirmation is not correct.

Prodrive issued a statement saying no such decision has been made.

Posted on their Facebook page.

The only problem I have with the new Mustangs including the GT is they only have a 2 star AMCAP safety rating which I feel is pretty poor considering the cost of the car.

Shouldn't affect a race car too much

How will that matter when it banging doors on a race track?

Don't worry they will just swap the bodies, it will still be a full 5 star safety falcon underneath

Just apply the test criteria that existed when the car was designed and built initially and you'll automatically jump a star or two in ratings...but that isn't ging to sell clicks on a website...

Switching FROM something is not the same as switching TO something ... Frosty hasn't actually said what they're going to.

Ah crap. Never relying on Murdoch press as a sauce, should've known better. Then again how can they quote Frosty like that if there's no truth to it?

Personally, I prefer tomato or even mustard. Push comes to shove and I might even give BBQ a go. Never tried Murdoch tho! What's it taste like?

Murdoch is sour yet bitter....

Does the Mustang lock in what Ford runners can use or are they still free to use additional platforms?

The ‘parity’ rules could be interesting next year.

A couple of “‘IF ” future scenarios .......

The new whiz-bang hitech TTV6 Holden Clayton’s Commodore disappears into the front distance of the dinosaur V8 Ford Mustang ....... will they pull one turbo off the Holden to bring it back ?

The Mustang leaves the Commodore in its fumes ....... will they nobble the Mustang with a weight penalty, restrict the fuel capacity and consumption, think of something else to slow it ? Holden admits it was wrong, and sticks a dinosaur V8 in it’s cars ?

The ‘old’ Falcadores of minor teams wipe the track with both newcomers. ?? Embarrassment all round ?

For those who already know the results of all the 2018 races, please keep your knowledge a secret, so it doesn’t spoil it for us who don’t know.

Will it use the Coyote/Voodoo V8 or continue to use the old 5 litre boat anchor?

Really, the 5 litre in the v8 supercars that powers them reliably around bathurst all day at speeds up to 300kmh is a boat anchor????

Wow, what are you so angry about? Clearly you aren't very familiar with the meaning of the boat anchor analogy to use it in this context. Yes, a factory 302 with <200HP would be a 'boat anchor,' but you are talking about racing cars.

Well in perspective, v8 Supercars is lagging behind in the drivetrain innovation department. You don't see F1 still running a V12 engine from the 90s. But F1 had overdone it and lost the plot when they started putting fuel economy and V6 into the equation.

If I remember correctly from last year whatever car they use falcon/mondeo/mustang was using the same engine since they spent $$$ on development

Here's a bit of photoshopping,
The roof doesn't fit over the chassis atm so there will be a bit of massaging going on.
