Default The great decision..... convince me.

Well, by the end of this year I'm going to have to finally choose the path I want the VCT to go. Supercharged or Turbo. Style or power. Sound or performance.

Seems like such an easy decison to me, Supercharged all the way. Why? Because its different, because its oldschool, because it sounds glorious.

So why the decision now? Simple, POWER and COST. For all the sound and style, the supercharger on an I6 is neither as powerful nor as cost efficient as a Turbo. So now I'm stuck in a dilemma. Do I follow the Supercharger route, one that I have wanted for quite some time now....or do I go for the big ticket power of the common turbo? :

At the moment I'm 50/50. Considering the power levels of the turbo will, for 70% of the money, be closer to 20-30% more powerful, its hard to ignore. Still, the supercharger has me spellbound.

So help me out here with some pearls of wisdom folks. The style or the power?

It depends what you want Shane mate. I personally love the aggresive look of a shiny supercharger and the sound of the cogs spinning as you plant your right foot. On the other hand while the turbo is more powerful and I have driven the aps twin turbo setup I just dont like the hissing of a blow off valve. But as you have said ..more power and less cost..??

Well I think that the turbo has to be better overall. If you fit a supercharger it will leave you wondering what you are missing out on if you had a turbo power and some change for a fat *** bottle of nitrous oxide injection.

One of the main reasons I dont like turbo's either.... but superchargers have them too so its not a big issue. The sound can be silenced if done right. Most of the big VL PSSSSST sounds are **** over function. The blowoff valve can be kept very silent if needed (and mine will be).

If they can be kept quiet ..well that is great. That loud hissing sound just a bit too fast and furious ..

IMO If your thinking Centrufugal Supercharger then I would go the turbo...
But if your thinking Positive Displacement then i would go the Supercharger !

Cant wait to see what that car of yours does next. I love the benchmark being set high, no fun chasing something thats too easy. 350rwkw or more should be easy in that car!

It starts with performance intentions, but go the turbo route and next thing it'll be the under car neon, monsta zorsts, your kids catching the the bus because you've torn out the rear seat for the sub-woofer.

End this folley while you still have your cred.. String singlet tops wouldn't suit you anyway! :

BA's do nothing for me. I cant see myself ever owning one. I'll stick to my AU, it's my preferred car. Nothing against the BA, they just dont interest me.

What do you mean mid life crisis approaching? It arrived long ago and refuses to leave!

LOL, no chance, this is about power and fun. All the rice gimmicks are not even a chance to get on my car. Hell, it wont even get a body kit or fancy stereo.

Why? I doubt most V8's will see anything bit the rear of my I6 anyhow...regardless of which forced route I take. Hell, a fair few V8's only see the rear of it as it is now!:

Sell the VCT & go for a TE50! makes sense money & power wise although it would be fun with a QUIET turbo or supercharger against the bogans in their ss commyies!l

I almost did... but in the end the changeover wasnt right price wise. No, the VCT stays now.

The whole idea is for a heap of power in a stealth format. Both solutions provide that somewhat... the supercharge a bit more unusual, the turbo with more power.

In the end I am after power... lots of it... more than can be considered sane.

You obviously must be meaning the General's product Shane

Oh by the way, I like both but old school would more reliable imo.

Sure. Most of the Generals 5.0l V8's (including HSV's) and a fair chunk of the Ford V8's from 92-98. As I said, most. My cars no rocket ship but it has certainly accounted for many a V8 in its time in a fair fight at the drags.

I don't really care what you do, as long as it's done by November. :

Seriously though, I guess if it were me I would be deciding what I want. Me, I'm all for a bit of originality and being different to the usual crowd, and straight out speed is not all I want in a car. For that reason I'd go supercharged, cos as you say, they sound great and it wont be a waste of money either.

If you cant decide ghostie the answer is easy. Get one of each. You might need some extra help keeping the head attached though, I recommend giant zip ties.

Uhhh, that's a toughie... I mean, I've got one of each and I just can't pick one! They're both good in their own right, and fun to drive! The whine of the blower, or the whistle of the turbo both make your spine tingle!

I'm sorry, but I can't pick one!
