Default Has anyone needed new tyres yet ? 2011 MC Titanium

Hi guys

My car was delivered in October, and I just had a service and they said I am in need of 2 front tyres due to uneven wear. They didn't even last 30,000 Kms

I'm going to get a second opinion but they said these are sports tyres and a very unusual size so this the reason.

Has this happened to anyone yet ?

Biggest problem is because they are an unusual size they also come with a big price tag ! (currently sporting Bridgestone Potenza 235/45/R18)
Anyone know where I can get some at a decent price ???

Firstly, if you are not comfortable making a call yourself on the state of the tyres then get a second opinion. Dealers have been known to go a little earlier than is necessary when calling for tyre replacements. Having said that, I only got 32K out of 235/45/17's on my MA and the second set have lasted the same again so 30K, depending on the driving style, may be about right.

I think 235/45/18 may be slightly unusual and would expect big dollars if you stick with the OEM tyre. Are you sure they aren't 235/40/18's? I was quoted $400 each for my 17's with the OEM tyre and that is for a very common size. Basically ring a few tyre outlets for alternate brands that meet both the size requirement and importantly the load rating. Insurance companies don't need much to deny a claim. Everyone has different opinions on tyres but try to stick with one of the mainstream brands.

My Zetec still has the factory tyres on it, took it for the 30,000km service last week and got advised that the front two need replacing.

There's no way I'll be getting tyres through the dealer at their prices though, and they quoted me for exactly the same as what's on the car - which are noisy as all hell.

I'll be doing a bit of research, I want something nice and quiet for my next set. Being Zetec I'm running the 17s though, not the 18s.

Hell, I may even look into a tyre & rim package!

Definitely 235/45/18 - so very unusual size - but may have found some Kumho's which are a good price today.

The main reason for the price is because the load/speed ratings (98Y) are really high and to keep it all legal (for insurance) you need to stay at those levels. When mine needed changing at a bit over 40000kms there were no Bridgestone's in the country so I had to get Pirelli's lucky I wasn't paying.

I have a MA XR5, running on 235/40/18s, and I replaced them earlier this year when the Goodyear sale was on (buy 3 get the 4th free) - I upgraded to the F1 Assymmetrical 2's. Wasn't that cheap (about $1100 all up), but well worth it.
I think the same deal is on now, until the end of this month. YMMV
