Have you ever shed a wheel while driving?

I've seen numerous videos on YouTube. Never had this misfortune but did once see a car of the freeway lose a wheel.

Seen it plenty of times on track. For some reason, always the rear left. Go figure.

Need to check the torque of the lug nuts regularly (and after each session on track!).

not lost a wheel but close, old VW, left hand sweeping bend (80k) doing around 75, right rear blows, next few seconds were exciting spun and rolled 3 times, luckily first complete roll was into a ditch this pushed the passengers side roof down down level with the seat, when it was all over I was sideways in drivers seat legs trapped under the 'running boards?' Only had a sash belt in those days.

Crazy part was the wrecker truck arrives, changes the wheel, wraps the passe ger seat belt around the door frame and drives it off crabwise down the road. So I did the same 55k back home then on the Monday did the same to crash repairers. Think if tried that today cops may take a dim view.

We bought the wreck off insurers and build our own dune buggy

Yeah. Inside left front on the racetrack.
It was ok until I had to slow for a caution a few laps later.

Was a passenger when left wheel left trailer... country rd no harm done.

one of the apprentices lost a wheel on the way to work in his newly purchased SII RX7, snapped the studs due to ill-fitting wheels (hub bore was too large for the hub)

Just happened to be at the top of a rather large hill and he watched the wheel and tyre roll past him and continue on 100's of metres past him!

I snapped an alloy wheel when I was younger and stupid(er) in my XF when I clipped a kerb racing through a "slow point" would have liked to see the action replay as it felt like I was up on 2 wheels which was rather scary at $1.20

Yes i've lost one off a trailer.
I was just about to turn right to get on the M1 at Palm beach on the gold coast, It rolled past me bumping the driver door on my new ute, went in-between a toyota hilux and a sign post up the curb and into a cops personal car parked out the front of palm beach police beat.
So i went and seen them, All he could do was laugh at me, Really nice cop.
He got a quote for parts and fixed it himself after i paid him.

As to cars, yes, lost NSF wheel, cracked the rim as the spindle came down on its inside but otherwise no issues.

Someone tried to steal the rims off one of my cars one day.

Got in the car and drove to work including the freeway at 100ks.

Almost at work and as I went around the corner a street away from work heard a knocking sound, pulled into the car park out the front of work and checked around could not see anything. Checked the wheel nuts and all 4 wheels nuts on the rear were loose, the only one tight was the lock nut which saved the rear wheels from falling off.

My son had a front wheel come off his new Next Gen Ranger at 80 kph, after the wheel nuts sheared. Damage to the wheel, hub and mudguard only.

My mates older brother lost not only the front wheel, but the hub and axle went with it. Yes it was an 80s mitsubishi colt.

It happened to my old EA back in 2003. I'd had it serviced and was driving it home when I felt the front right drop and watched the wheel crossing the road. The mechanic had only done the wheel up fingertight. I feel because of the EA Ghia turboblade rims being a very deep socket, that helped it come off straight which is also why there was no sign it was loose till it came off. Thankfully damage was minimal

Back in 1965 (when I was a young tacker),was in the rear of my older brother's Austin A40 & on the Great western Hwy headed towards St Marys. We were slowing down for a red light when "some idiot's" loose wheel went past us at slow speed. And then the rear of the car dropped....

place i used to work at [Lara] i walked to one morning and turned the corner.. noticed a late model Valiant parked and wondered why it looked odd. after a few minutes of walking around it i realized that someone had tried to remove all the wheels . ... and failed. car dropped and the wheels were stuck in the wheel arches.


early teens - went for a ride on me pushie ...... coming back i popped a mono .. and watched me front wheel roll off along the road.

I was slightly older young tacker back then.
Mate had a A40, and it used to shed its steering wheel if he didn't hold it on right.
