Default my bro has finally caught the modding bug!

hey guys. it's taken 7 years to catch on but my brother has finally caved in and decided to do some upgrades to his 2001 Au xr6 pursuit ute. hasn't wanted to touch the thing since new.

started with me buying him a K&N air induction kit for his new jeep. then, me taking him for a spin in my phoon...hhahaha

he then asks me, can you get a filter for the ute? - so i get him a K&N panel filter. then came the extractors and 2.5" stainless mandrel bent exhaust. noice. he's now running it exclusively on 98ron.

now he has started reading street fords mags and has started asking a lot more questions....expendable income isn't really a problem...

1. he's wanting to check out these splitfire kits - I've told him to steer clear (no value for $$$ in my opinion). what are some decent plugs and leads for these AU's. is it worthwhile going thicker leads?

2. I've had a unichip for some time on my xh, but notice that capa have an eliminator chip. are these just plug and play or or they custom tunable to take advantage of other mods done?

3. cams, what's the go here with the VCT motors? any upgrades advisable?

4. can't forget the bling.....he's after a braided hose kit for the underbonnet bling. where can you get these from, how much and can you fit 'em yourself?

5. brake dust covers.....hate em. is it ok to remove them? does it affect anything apart from creating more brake dust to clean?

6. any other suggestions for performance gains? (apart from snort performance).

hope some of you AU boys out there can take the time to give us a hand with a few of these questions

thanks in advance!

NGK plugs and there is a goupbuy for MSD leads on atm, get them. It states in the title that they are for AU V8 but they are available for the I6 too.

Custom tuned Flash tuner is the go.[COLOR]

Not too sure, but there is not a great range.

Silicone hoses are the go, coloured ones. Speak to Jeff from pole Position (Site Sponsor) for these, they come in red or blue.

Get rid of them, no issue with doing that.

Is it a manual or an auto? If its an auto I'd suggest getting a shift kit, you can grab a simple kit for under $100. Its just a little electronic module, and can be easily fitted by just about anyone. Firms up the shifts, and extends the transmission life.

You can get the cheap slip on braided hose covers at supercheapautobarn. More expensive kits can be had from racing shops. Earl's do a few good ones, and many shops carry that brand.

NGK iridiums or Champion platinum tips. MSD leads are good.
Braided hose isnt cheap, speak to Enzed or Pirtek.
GnD have a couple of choices for the VCT motor, not really sure who else deals with the VCT. Maybe Wade or Surecam?
The unichip works, but the flash tune is alot more advanced, and definately the last thing that should be done to save re-tunes after each mod.

what are you looking at in terms of $$$ for a capa flash box for the AU VCT pursuit models? are the generic tunes OK with just extractors and zorst or would you require a custom tune and if so, how much would this usually set you back for a custom tune?

Yes there are, but I wouldn't waste your money on one.

You can get the flash box by itself for around $400 or so. If I were you, I wouldn't bother with a custom tune until EVERYTHING is done to the car engine wise. Custom tunes can be had for around $500 or so for the sixes. But even if you got a generic tune, chances are it won't be beneficial anyway. Save for the custom tune.
