One of the offices I worked for in the UK bought an early commercial grade 3D printer for near 100K pounds...while the GFC was hitting. We made 40 people redundant a week or two later and the office discovered the cost to use the machine was exorbitant so in the two following years only 1 project could afford to make a 3D model.
Of course when it came to the crunch the team discovered half the young guys in the office had used all the materials to make crap for home, without permission, and they couldn't complete their model. We then paid 15K to have it made out of house.
I cant believe how cheap home versions are now, its a fast moving tech.
