If living in the van full time I would suggest doing it properly and not trying to compromise too much. By this i mean a decent size vehicle that can tow 3.5T comfortably.
79series can do it, but creature comforts are pretty much non existant.
I'd go big. F250, or that type/size vehicle. (silverado, ram etc).
Its a lot of extra coin but then you get the creature comforts as well as the towing stability. Better for everyone.
The other option, as mentioned already, is the small jap trucks. Sitting over the front wheel will always compromise ride though, even with an air seat.
